The domestic avocado market is expanding as avocados are being traded online

According to U Myo Nyunt, vice-chairman of the Myanmar Avocado Growers ‘and Exporters’ Association, the change in the online quality of avocados to sell with a quality assurance system has boosted consumer confidence and expanded into the domestic market.

Due to the high season of avocados, avocados from far and near are competing with each other in the market and it is difficult to export them.

“This avocado season, we are using the online system to sell to consumers in the local market with a guarantee system. “Online sales are being negotiated with farmers and consumers in different parts of the avocado-producing area, and prices are likely to be lower if current populations enter the market,” Myo Nyunt said.

Hass avocados are sold at around 9,500 to 10,000 kyats per kilogram and B-grade around 8,500 kyats per kilogram. C-grade and below C-grade are sold at around 6,500 to 7,000 kyats per kilogram. The average size of a large, high-quality avocado costs around 1,500 kyats.
